This Spring The Wallace Collection will exhibit and celebrate a significant art form that is frequently overlooked – Gilt Bronze. French Masterpieces of Gilt Bronze will bring together outstanding objects from the late eighteenth century.
This exhibition showcases luxurious artworks from the Wallace’s own collections that were commissioned and owned by the wealthiest patrons and collectors, including leading figures of pre-revolutionary France like Marie-Antoinette, and international patrons such as the Prince of Wales (later George IV).
Highlights include an exquisite perfume burner by Gouthière once owned by Marie-Antoinette, drawings by Pierre-Adrien Pâris and loans from other world-class collections including drawings from the Bibliothèque Municipale in Besançon.
Gilded Interiors: French Masterpieces of Gilt Bronze will be an opportunity for visitors with these magnificent works, which will be given centre stage in the special exhibition galleries.
Gilded Interiors: French Masterpieces of Gilt Bronze runs 4 May - 30 July at The Wallace Collection. Find out more here.
