Enjoy a rare evening visit to the Bank of England Museum as part of the Museums at Night festival, with special events taking place throughout the night.

Explore the new banknote gallery, which tells the story of banknotes and how they have evolved over the years, from the simple 17th-century handwritten receipts to the new fiver, the most sophisticated note that the Bank has issued to date. For this special event, banknote experts will be giving short talks about our current notes and explaining how to use their advanced design and security features to identify forgeries.

The Bank’s bullion experts will be on hand to answer all your questions about gold. You can even hold a real gold bar, which weighs in at an impressive 13 kilos – it may take you by surprise!

Museums at Night is on 19 May, 5.30pm - 9pm. Admission and all activities are free. Find out more here.
