The Engine Room: International Sound Art Exhibition

Celebrating the most exciting sound art being produced right now.

4 May 2017 - 1 June 2017 | Visit website

The International Sound Art Exhibition at The Engine Room features the work of 20 finalists from countries around the world, including France, Portugal, South Korea, Finland and the United States, as well as several UK artists.

The works on display include sounds sampled from news reports and archived footage, installations that generate sound through resonance, and even some that can be described as “silent sound art”. Through a range of sensory experiences, visitors are encouraged by this year’s exhibition to consider the world around them and their place within it.

The exhibition will also feature a new commission by artist and creative coder Tim Murray-Browne in collaboration with Aphra Shemza. The work, entitled “Post-Truth and Beauty” responds to a post-Brexit, mid-Trump descent across the political spectrum into tribalist discourse of labels and otherness.

As well as the competition exhibition, the College will be hosting a range of related events, including talks, performances and taster sessions at both the Morley College site and the nearby IKLECTIK Art Lab.

The International Sound Art Exhibition at The Engine Room runs 4 May-1 June, entrance to the gallery is free. Find out more and book tickets here.
