Five great venues on Facebook
Facebook is used by millions of people around the world and not only is it a great way to keep up with friends and family, it's also an invaluable social media tool for thousands of organisations. Here Tanya Braun looks at five great cultural venues in London whose Facebook pages are brilliant examples.
When looking for inspiration on where to go and what to do in London, one is faced with many options, one of these being Facebook. Not only does it give you an overview of the venue, it can give you offers, updates and information on up and coming events. And with social media being a major part of our everyday lives, without having to lift a finger, your newsfeed can give you an answer on what to do with your week.
Here are five of our favourite London cultural venues on Facebook:
Tate (https://www.facebook.com/tategallery)
Consistently updated and with links to its social media friend, Twitter, the latest news and events are recorded as soon as they are announced. Littered with pictures on display in the museum, it gives the fan a chance to see new paintings that are on display, surely one of the most important aspects for a fanatic follower. Even with a page allocated to reviews, information is abundant and there is plenty of interaction with members of the public.
Royal Opera House (https://www.facebook.com/royaloperahouse)
This page gives an insight into behind the scenes, with video, photographs and explanation. Very responsive, it doesn’t just feature articles relevant to itself or the present day, occasionally giving a historical insight into the world of ballet and opera. It is also a place where information on the stars of the opera world and general gossip is shared.
Natural History Museum (https://www.facebook.com/naturalhistorymuseum)
Keeping the public up-to-date with events and even commenting on current affairs and television programmes, just like the museum itself, its page is very interactive. Arranging special events for public holidays, there is the chance to grab reduced price tickets and enter competitions. It also offers a simple way to buy tickets before leaving home!
Garden Museum (https://www.facebook.com/Garden.Museum)
Filled with pictures of current exhibitions followed by features written by journalists and members of the public, this small venue has somewhat less followers than the other four. However, just because it is small doesn’t mean it is any less inspiring or influential and it has a number of people commenting and thanking it for a good day out. Kept up-to-date with looming events there is a great deal to look at on this page.
Shakespeares Globe Theatre (https://www.facebook.com/ShakespearesGlobe)
Details of demonstrations as well as up-and-coming shows are rife on this page as well as reviews and information about specific Shakespeare’s plays. Very interactive, it questions reader’s opinions, while also asking for answers relating to certain cultures and plays. There are plenty of fantastic pictures accompanied by helpful information and there is even a chance to adopt an actor!
