Official London Theatre’s top Christmas tips

12 December 2015 Kate Stanbury

Official London Theatre give their Christmas 2015 guide for theatre lovers.

Official London Theatre’s top Christmas tips

Some of you may be yet to acknowledge the prospect of Christmas shopping. Then again, some of you may have bought all your presents in August, wrapped them, stuffed them in stockings and put them in the loft for safe-keeping. No kidding, we actually know someone who did this!

Now, this isn’t us admitting to being disorganised (much!), but our Christmas to-do list is very much a last-minute December affair, when not only are there great deals to be had (and not just because of Black Friday… keep reading) but there’s also a whole lot of festive inspiration to be found in Theatreland.

From decorating your Christmas tree to buying the perfect theatrical Christmas gifts AND helping you wrap them (sort of), we’re here to help make your Christmas that little bit easier. Call us a slightly more competent Buddy The Elf.

Gift ideas for theatre lovers

Our annual discount theatre ticket promotion Get Into London Theatre has returned for another year, with tickets for a wide variety of London shows reduced to £10, £20, £30 or £40 for performances from 1 January to 12 February.

For those new to the promotion we’re talking everything from Olivier Award-winning musicals and critically acclaimed plays to classic operas and ballets, which means tickets for your favourite London shows at a fraction of the price.

Obviously we’re not suggesting you trick your family and friends into thinking you paid full price – no, we’d never do a thing like that – but we’re pretty sure if you take them as your guest and discreetly slip the tickets to the usher they’d never know!

Choosing a show too risky? We’ve got that covered too. Our nationwide theatre vouchers Theatre Tokens are the best way to give the gift of theatre without having to decide on a specific production. Valid at more than 240 venues, including all of London’s West End, and with no expiry date, they’re perfect for indecisive present givers and receivers.

As an added bonus this Christmas, Theatre Tokens has teamed up with Nick Hern Books to offer you the chance to win a copy of all of its 2015 publications – that’s enough to start a small library by the way – plus £200 of Theatre Tokens. With everything from Mike Bartlett's Game to Antony Sher's Year Of The Fat Knight, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to wrap them all individually and masquerade them as highly thoughtful gifts… if only the prize draw didn’t end on 31 December. There’s always next year?

Need some help decorating that six-foot tree?

Head down to our Leicester Square ticket booth TKTS over the festive period and be inspired by some particularly theatrical decorations. We don’t want to give too much away until you see for yourselves but, put it this way, if you’re looking for ways to jazz up some old tree trinkets it’s well worth a visit. You can, of course, pick up a bargain while you’re there – call it a reward for all that hard work buying gifts, making Christmas puddings and generally Christmasifying the house – with an amazing choice of amazing deals on the day and up to a week in advance.

Plan a theatrical Christmas day out

If ever there were a good time to go to the theatre – apart from all the time, obviously – it’s Christmas, when the West End is bedecked with Christmas lights, Trafalgar Square has acquired its Nordic fir and ice rinks – and in some cases, roller discos – have set up shop across the capital.

Arriving in London this December, we have children’s favourites The Gruffalo, Peppa Pig’s Surprise and Slava’s Snowshow, two productions of The Nutcracker courtesy of the Royal Opera House and London Coliseum, and classic musical Guys And Dolls. You can take a look at the official trailer for the latter, which stars Sophie Thompson, Jamie Parker, David Haig and Siubhan Harrison, here.

It’s the festive season so that’s not all that’s on offer in London’s theatres, so be sure to check out our Christmas]http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/london-shows/xmas/">Christmas[/url] shows page for all your theatrical needs. Merry Christmas!
