Explore London with these five amazing events happening this week!

 

 Orbit Lates

What to expect: spectacular views with drink in hand

This Friday sees the first of three unforgettable nights at the ArcelorMittal Orbit in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Londoners can party the night away under the stars at the new sky-high Orbit Lates series! Revellers are invited to eat, drink, dance and enjoy London’s breathtaking skyline from the UK’s tallest sculpture! Taking place on the Orbit’s two observation desks, this unique venue will be transformed into the ultimate party pad with live music performances from the likes of Astronauts and Paddy Steer and DJ’s sets playing everything from the very best retro tracks to the latest dance tunes. One evening will even host a silent disco where partygoers can mix their own playlists!

Orbit Lates will be held at the ArcelorMittal Orbit on Friday 8th, 15th & 22nd August. Tickets cost £17.50 - £20, available here and for your chance to win tickets to the silent disco, click here.

 

 Prudential RideLondon

What to expect: an afternoon of pedal pushing

Back for its second year, Prudential RideLondon returns to the capital this weekend! Kicking off with the FreeCycle event, cyclists of all ages and abilities are invited to hop on their bikes and take a ride around town! On the 10-mile traffic free route, riders can take in London’s iconic sights and enjoy a host of music and entertainment on the go. Later in the day, the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix event will take place in St James’s Park where cycling fans and passers by can watch young Olympic hopefuls race for the finish line and the world’s best pro female cyclists battle it out for the RideLondon title. Make sure you get involved!

Prudential RideLondon takes place on Saturday 9th August from 9am. Admission is free; however make sure you register in advance to join the FreeCycle event.

 

 Summer Night Markets

What to expect: food, films and fun

Camden Lock invites Londoner’s to indulge in the city’s finest international street food, craft beer, live music and outdoor screenings for a series of Summer Night Markets held every Thursday evening throughout August! Visitors can enjoy music and DJ sets from up and coming local talent whilst challenging the Pongbot Robot to a knockabout at the Ping Pong Party. Backyard Cinema will also be showing a selection of fantastic films on their giant outdoor screen with beanbags a plenty! Surely with this many amazing events on offer, there is no better way to spend a sultry summer evening.

 Ursula Martinez

What to expect: a laugh-out-loud performance

This week cult cabaret connoisseur Ursula Martinez performs her hilarious show My Stories, Your Emails at the Southbank Centre. Forming part of the Southbank’s Festival of Love programme, Martinez combines stand-up, live art and character comedy to explore confessions, obsessions, misunderstands, 21st century love and cyberspace. Taking inspiration from email responses she received following her Internet video striptease act Hanky Panky, Martinez reveals what can happen when your private parts go public! A unique and infectiously funny show that is sure to leave audiences in stitches.

My Stories, Your Emails will run from 5th- 10th August at the Southbank Centre. Tickets cost £18.75, available here.

 

 Dessa Rose

What to expect: a powerful piece of theatre

Making its European debut in the heart of London’s West End, Trafalgar Studios presents the inspiring musical drama Dessa Rose. Set in 1846 in the ante-bellum South, Dessa and Ruth tell stories to their grandchildren, recalling the hardships they suffered because of their gender and skin colour. Directed by the masterful storyteller and multi-award winner Andrew Keates, this extraordinary tale of two young women and their fight for acceptance is a must-see this summer!

Dessa Rose is on at Trafalgar Studios from 29th July – 31st August. Tickets cost £15 - £30, available here.
