Top 5: Gluten-Free Restaurants in London

25 August 2016 Stephanie Brandhuber

Whether you’re coeliac, gluten-sensitive, or trying to be that little bit healthier, London has an exciting variety of gluten-free restaurant options to suit your needs and desires. From pizzas, to Vietnamese food, to glorious fried chicken, we’ve picked out some of the best places in London to gorge yourself on gluten-free goodness.

Niche
Niche is quite possibly the best 100% gluten-free restaurant in London. Their food is so spectacularly tasty that you would never know that what you're eating is specifically made without the inclusion of grains and wheat. This intimate little restaurant is right around the corner from Sadler's Wells in Angel, and specialises in comfort food and good British homemade fare. Highlights of their menu are their delicious freshly made pies, their colourful, vibrant salads, and their heavenly fried chicken. For a real treat, indulge in the colossal, mouth-watering onion rings with a side of aioli, they are not to be missed.

Niche is located at 197-199 Rosebery Ave, London EC1R 4TJ.

La Polenteria
Located in the heart of Soho, La Polenteria’s claim to fame is as London’s first 100% gluten-free Italian restaurant. As it says on the tin, this restaurant specialises in dishes made with polenta, a cornmeal flour that’s cooked in hot water with a pinch of salt and can then be made and moulded into a whole variety of delicious dishes. Highlights of their menu include eggs benedict served with avocado and polenta, chicken Caesar salad with a helping of grilled polenta, and ginger quinoa balls with walnuts and tzatziki. With these delectable dishes and many more, La Polenteria is forging their own unique path in London’s healthy food scene.

La Polenteria is located at 64 Old Compton St, London W1D 4UQ. See more of their delicious menu online.

Pho
Pho opened its doors to the public in 2005 and made their mark as London’s first Vietnamese street food restaurant. With high stools and big bowls of piping hot pho (a traditional rice noodle soup), visiting Pho is almost like sitting in a street café in Ho Chi Minh City. Asian food can be tricky for coeliacs and for those trying to avoid gluten, but Pho has proven to be a game-changer by recently adapting their menu to be almost completely gluten-free. Free-from foodies can now indulge in big bowls of Vietnamese goodness without worry, and for those of you who don’t have an intolerance, you’ll be taken care of too as pho-tunately, this restaurant’s food is nutritious and delicious.

Pho has several different locations, including Stratford, Spitalfields, St. Paul’s, Clerkenwell, Covent Garden, Soho, and several more. For a full list of locations, visit Pho online.

Stingray Cafe
This friendly little café in Tufnell Park believes that quality food shouldn’t come at a big price. Serving up Italian and Mediterranean fare, this Tufnell park treasure specialises in gluten-free pasta, and large, thin crust gluten-free pizzas. The menu offers an extensive range of free-from dishes, and with gluten-free beer and cake options too, this is the perfect place to enjoy a casual night of Italian dining.

Stingray Café is located at 135 Fortess Road, Tufnell Park, London NW5 2HR.

Feed Me Primal
The UK’s only paleo street food vendor is now about to launch its own restaurant in Boxpark Croydon. Regularly serving up healthy food at markets such as Camden, Southbank, and Covent Garden, Feed Me Primal prides itself on its grain-free, gluten-free, freshly made fare. Founder Gemma Callander believes that people shouldn’t have to sacrifice taste over nutrition, and has therefore ensured that Feed Me Primal’s dishes are packed full of big flavours and delicious, healthy ingredients. The menu features vegetarian and meat options that are all served with fresh paleo flatbreads stuffed with caulrice, griddled peppers, red onion, seasonal salad, and topped off with homemade tomato sauce.
