Top 5: Naked London

5 May 2016 Becca Johnson

With summer just around the corner and the start of warm weather creeping into the capital, it does seem like a good time to get a little more freedom in your life. If you’ve got a gym-toned body to show off, or are just curious about some of the more unique events out there, this is the list for you!

Naked Restaurant

There seems to be a new restaurant pop up announced every day and after a while they all start to blend into one. So we couldn’t help but feel intrigued by a dining experience aiming to free us from the ‘trappings of modern life’.  Think home-grown ingredients, no electricity, no modern technology and, well, no clothing.  The naked part is optional (you can either opt for the ‘clothed’ or ‘pure’ sections) but with soft candlelight, all natural bamboo surroundings and meals served on handmade clay crockery with edible cutlery, it does all sound rather liberating.

The Bunyadi are opening for three months from June 2016. Join the waiting list to get a spot.

Naked Run

Feeling brave enough to go for a jog in the nude? Don’t worry, it’s all for a good cause! London Zoo hosts their annual ‘Streak for Tigers’ naked run every August, with participants raising money for ZSL tiger conservation projects. Bright body paint is welcome, and you’re provided with a tiger mask to wear (useful, should you wish your naked body to remain anonymous!) Those wanting to support the runners, and not feeling quite brave enough to strip off themselves, can donate with a spectator only ticket.

Streak for Tigers is on 11th August at 7pm. Sign up online.

Naked Theatre

If you prefer your nudity from the safety of a theatre seat, we have just the show for you. ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’ tells the story of the plan dreamed up by Mrs Henderson to save the failing Windmill theatre using  ‘tableaux vivants’ with real naked women! Tickets sold so well that the business was not only saved, but it remained the only theatre never to close during the Blitz. Expect plenty of exquisitely tasteful nudity (male and female), plus some rather catchy songs, a touching story and a very British message about keeping calm and carrying on. Read our interview with the show's Tracie Bennet here.

Mrs Henderson Presents is showing now. Book tickets online.

Naked Art

Is your New Year’s resolution to take up a new hobby as yet unfulfilled? Life drawing classes are a distinctly cultured way to improve your artistic skills and get a little more naked body positivity into your life. London Drawing lists a whole range to match various skill levels and locations. We’re personally keen on the dark and atmospheric surroundings of The Vaults, where life-drawing classes take place on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

London Drawing at the Vaults is on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm. Entry is £10, there’s no need to book in advance.

Naked Bike Ride

We all know cycling is better for the environment, so why not show your opposition to oil dependency and car culture by joining the annual naked bike ride! Taking place in hundreds of cities world wide, the London event for 2016 will be on the (hopefully sunny) Saturday 11th June during UK bike week. There’s a choice of six different start points across London and participation is completely free. Most locations even set up body painting areas to help you cover yourselves with inspiring ‘green’ slogans, just don’t forget your sunscreen as well!

The London Naked Bike Ride is on Saturday 11th June. Start point and time varies, find out more here.
