Top 5: Rooftop Bars in London

27 April 2017 Belphoebe New

We’ve seen a few glimpses of the sun recently, and if you’re anything like us, you’re itching in anticipation for long summer nights sitting in the park, or in this case, whiling the night away drinking and socialising at London’s many rooftop bars. You’ve probably experienced the beauty of London’s skyline at least once, and plenty of bars across the city are opening up rooftop spaces for summer evenings with cocktails, film screenings and unrivalled views. From cosy chilled-out spaces to high-end glitzy restaurants overlooking the city’s skyscrapers, we pick out some of the best rooftop bars you should be spending your summer evenings at.

Franks Bar

Situated on the top of a car park in Peckham, Franks is a legendary space for London’s trendiest. Enjoy a Negroni or Moscow Mule from their extensive cocktail menu on the benches nestled up alongside other punters, or stare out at the view of the city, one of the best panoramic views of London south of the river. Closed during the winter months, Franks will reopen on 19 May this year, and it should be your first stop if you’re looking for a chilled rooftop atmosphere for those precious Summer evenings. It’s a popular choice, so make sure to turn up early!

The Golden Bee

Pass through the fairy lighted arch onto the rooftop terrace of The Golden Bee, an urban cocktail bar situated slap bang in the centre of Shoreditch. Cuddle up on the sofas near the fire pit and the heaters, or snuggle under a blanket if you’re feeling the chill. It will certainly be worth it for the atmosphere and the unique cocktail selection, including the Golden Bee cocktail with reposado tequila and passion fruit puree, and the Shoreditch Painkiller, something to keep you going all night with a mixture of vodka and tropical red bull. Watch out for regular film screenings up on this atmospheric film terrace too!

Big Chill House

Big Chill’s rooftop terrace perhaps isn’t the best for views, but the cheerful décor and delicious food selection makes it the ideal summer destination. It’s got a real summer party feel, with pink and green deckchairs, bunting and cute little beach huts selling Mexican inspired food and bottomless brunches on the weekend. You can even enjoy a board game with your Bloody Mary! This is a great choice for a rooftop bar without the uptight atmosphere and with more of a quirky feel.

Coq D’Argent

Over in Bank, this glamorous French restaurant has one of the most stunning rooftop terraces around. It’s a true secret garden above the city’s streets, and rather than simply looking out over the city from far away, you’ll feel as if you’re in touching distance of the Gherkin and the Shard. If it’s a little colder and rainier, duck under the cosy canopies by the sizeable heaters or if it’s a beautiful day, take a glass of bubbly and go and marvel at your picturesque surroundings (you’ll want to selfie this one).

Culpeper Roof Garden

Above a pub in Spitalfields is a botanical haven of lush green plants, twisting vinery and delicious smelling herbs that are specially grown for use in your food and your cocktails. Culpeper could be described as an allotment rising high alongside the urban cityscape, where you can drink cocktails in the greenhouse or sit and enjoy delicious food surrounded by the diverse plant life. You can also muck in and try your hand at making flavourful botanical inspired cocktails at one of their workshops.
